David Huizenga

David Huizenga, Ph.D, JD, is the Chief Technology Officer of Zirus where he is engaged in management of the Zirus patent portfolio, licensing, and competitive intelligence. Dr. Huizenga is a leader in the translation of the company’s science strategy to the patent and business strategy. Dr. Huizenga obtained his Ph.D. from Harvard, in the laboratory of Jack Szostak, Nobel Laureate in Medicine. His research focused on the structure/function relationships of small molecules and functional nucleic acids, such as aptamers, and the integration of rational and irrational discovery paradigms to identify molecules having new and desired function. Immediately prior to joining Zirus, Dr. Huizenga was a partner at Arnall Golden Gregory LLP, and head of its patent team. Legally, Dr. Huizenga’s experience has focused on all aspects of biotechnology patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling as well as litigation. Dr. Huizenga has also worked closely with small biotechnology and pharma companies in a founder’s capacity, and his experience centers around analysis and implementation of early and mid-stage commercial opportunities using the strategic commercial, scientific, and legal analysis that leads to their next value inflection point.
